M1. Compare the limitations of different hardware and software packages used in graphics work.

This assignment recieved grade: Distinction

No matter how powerful a piece of hardware or software is, it has some limitations when compared to other hardware or software. In this task, I will be looking at the limitations of different hardware and software packages used in graphics work.

Software Limitation in Graphics

At first, I'll be comparing two very popular software namely, Adobe Photoshop and Paint.

Adobe Photoshop & Paint

I will first equate two products, Photoshop and Paint, which are software packages. Photoshop is a design application which is highly profound. Computer artists worldwide use them effectively. With Photoshop, the possibilities are quite infinite and almost every picture is editable. Images can be modified in several forms, including color correction, special effects, framing and adjustments in context. Lasso tools and magic wand tools can help remove objects and to position them elsewhere so that certain parts of items of the same color can be extracted. One of Photoshop's limitations is that it is difficult to pick up, some of the functions are advanced. Another limitation in photoshop is the need to raster images and change and tweak Photoshop so that pictures can also be imported to other adobe applications, such as fireworks. For example, a graphics designer produces photoshop pictures; then he exports files to fireworks to animate them. Everything in Photoshop can also be resized and condensed.

It is extremely easy to compare Photoshop and paint. Paint is a very simple program which doesn't even compare the number of features with Photoshop's large number. Painting is an idea for easy editing, such as cutting and redimensioning. There can be no special effects and it's not a qualified system. Paint is a free tool with any Windows edition. In paints only simple drawing tools, like pen, paint, spray and a range of colors, are not complex. Documents like BPM, JPEG, PNG, and GIFS may be stored in the color.

Now talking about some limitations of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Illustrator is a vector-based graphics editor widely used to create logos or anything that may need to be printed or displayed at different sizes. Although it comes with many features it has some limitations:

  • Limited support for raster graphics.
  • Adobe illustrator takes a lot of space and requires a really high-end RAM and Graphics card to render images easily.

That was about some of the very popular software used in graphics work.

Hardware Limitation in Graphics

RAM(Random Access Memory):

While operating with photo editors like photoshop with the digital image, having a good RAM is crucial If your computer has 2 GB RAM, most of the virtual high-end software kit will have trouble operating or crashing. RAM can run a program like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator in another 8-GB device. Simple code such as a paint operates on 2 GB of ram comfortably, but 8 GB of ram is suitable for virtual graphics.

Processor:

In digital graphics, the computer should be of a higher standard and more powerful than slower computers, while a faster processor will run multiple uses when performing tasks. There are four processors with Quad-core, there are two with the pair which means that it is twice as strong as the two-core processor. They will run more programs concurrently with quad-core, and quad-core has almost four times as much memory.

Graphics Tablet:

It's not really that portable and menu control is difficult to make a selection. Graphics tablet's bigger size, say A4 size is too expensive, and drawing large images in a small area is hard. It is very sensitive and it may take some time to get used to it.

Mouse:

They operate only when placed on a flat surface and some people with restricted hand movement cannot easily use it. When compared to a graphics tablet the trackball of a mouse is often prone to being damaged, so it's quite unreliable and gets damaged easily. Also dragging it sometimes is difficult due to less sensitivity of trackball.

That's all about comparing the limitations of different hardware and software used in graphics work.
